Renting – A Greener Way to Do Business

sustainable practices

Do you want to incorporate more sustainable practices in your business? Technology rentals and sustainability can go hand in hand when managed and executed thoughtfully. Here’s how tech rental services can contribute to sustainability:

  1. Reduced Electronic Waste: Technology rentals encourage the reuse of electronics. Instead of individuals and businesses buying new devices every time they need them, they can rent and return them when no longer needed. This reduces electronic waste in landfills.
  2. Extended Product Lifespan: Rental companies have an incentive to maintain and repair their tech equipment to keep them in good working condition for as long as possible. This extends the lifespan of the devices, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
  3. Upgrading Technology Responsibly: Rental services can regularly update their tech inventory to include the latest, most energy-efficient models. This allows customers to access cutting-edge technology without the need to discard old devices, reducing e-waste.
  4. Sharing Economy Principles: Green technology rentals align with the sharing economy concept, which promotes resource efficiency. Instead of everyone owning their tech gadgets, a few devices can be shared among many users, reducing the overall number of products produced and disposed of.
  5. Recycling Initiatives: Responsible tech rental companies often have recycling programs for devices that have reached the end of their useful life. They ensure that these devices are properly recycled, minimizing their environmental impact.
  6. Renewable Energy/Carbon Offsetting: Some tech rental companies utilize renewable energies or invest in carbon offset initiatives to compensate for their carbon emissions, which can result from shipping and transportation.

However, it’s important to note that not all tech rental companies operate with sustainability as a priority. When considering a tech rental service, it’s essential to research their sustainability practices, including their device maintenance, recycling programs, and environmental policies.

Vernon Technology through their parent company DCR employs a variety of sustainable practices including the use of renewable energies. They also have an abundance of environmental certification including the widely recognized R2 2013 certification. For more information about their green initiatives click here.

Make It Easy – Event Registration 101

The first point of contact for your guests will be registration, so setting a smooth and streamlined process will set the tone for a great event.

Signage goes a Long Way
Clear signage is key to ensuring a good impression and ease to your guests in finding you and your registration. Be generous with venue directional signage, both indoors and outdoors. If your guests can sign up on an app, have instructional signage easily viewable to many.

Avoid Long Lines with Enough Staff
Having enough tables space and event staff attending to registration is necessary to keep things moving smoothly. Allot more than one attendant for over 100 expected guests, and add one every 100 until you have a solid ratio of attendants to guests. Additionally, having enough tables and surface space is key, ensure two attendants are ready per table to assist sign-in per table.

Don’t Skimp of Office Supplies
Keep an arsenal of extra name tags, tape, markers, pens, post-its and even scissors if need be to ensure you are prepared for any manual registration as a back-up with an exported guest list.

Power is Key
Ensure your tablets, laptops and interactive display screens are well charged and have easy access to a charging portal, ideally with an extension cord handy. Check your wifi access and monitor throughout the registration process, when in doubt, have a back-up ‘hot spot’ available on a smart device. Don’t overlook lighting at your registration area as well. If things look a little dim, bringing extra lighting will make all the difference to your guests and their process.

Lastly, ensure you have enough devices to ensure wait times are low and check-ins are prompt. Having too many is much better than not having enough, no one likes waiting in a long line!

Whether you need computers or iPads, interactive displays or specialty printers – Vernon Technology Solutions has what you need to create a successful sign-in and set the tone for your event.

Top Tech Rentals for Film Festivals

With the Toronto International Film Fest (TIFF) around the corner, we thought we would highlight some of the must-have rentals for film festivals and events.

TIFF is a film festival running since 1976 that takes place at the TIFF Bell Lightbox in Toronto every September. With reports that TIFF attracts over 480,000 annually, it is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals in the world. Attended by hundreds of high level celebrities and thousands of media outlets and representatives, TIFF is a powerhouse festival which has grown from humble beginnings to a massive event.

As a proud TIFF rental provider, Vernon Technology will deliver the technology rentals to keep the TIFF events running smoothly and efficiently with our top of the line products. Some of the essential rentals for a film festival like TIFF include:

  1. Digital Display Screens
With vivid signage hosting dynamic content, large display screens are a way to educate guests on where they should be and what they need to know. Use interactive displays to occupy attendees between screenings with information pertaining to films, important dates and times, surrounding events, etc. See display screens here
  2. Charging Stations
Charging stations are a fantastic perk your guests will appreciate and will use. With all of the time spent on our smartphones, batteries at events can drain quick with snaps and apps, so charging stations are a no brainer. For the ‘no phone zones,’ locked and secured charging stations are ideal to keep attendees phones safe during screenings with confidence. See Charging Stations here
  3. iPad Kiosks
To ensure checking-in is a breeze, iPad or tablet kiosks are efficient and easy for attendees to use and useful for organization during registration. Ensure you have multiple kiosks to ensure a flow of attendees to avoid mass lines and queues. See iPad kiosks here
  4. Wifi Routers
Strong wifi signal is essential for any event with devices relying on its network, so having high powered portable wifi is needed to keep everything running smoothly without delays. Ensuring your wifi is clear and strong throughout your festival is key, so delegate a staff member to check the wifi regularly prior to your start time. See portable wifi here
  5. Laptops
Notebooks and laptops and events go hand in hand. With the ability to execute many tasks from one device, laptops are probably the number one rental for film festivals. From keeping track of attendees, timelines, media coverage, tickets, staff – laptops are an easy add when creating your list of technology rental needs for a film festival. See our laptops here
